Malik, who was part of the Hyderabad squad as a net bowler, has played one T20I and List A match for Jammu and Kashmir and has taken a total of four wickets.
Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson described the right-arm pacer as an “exciting talent” at the toss.
“It is an unfortunate situation, but with the development of players, there is a lot to be achieved in tough conditions, especially against a team like Kolkata. Umran Malik has come in place of Sandeep Sharma to improve the balance in the team. He is an exciting fast bowling talent,” he said.
SRH, who are currently at the bottom of the IPL 2021 points table with just two wins from 11 matches, have already crashed out of the race for the playoffs.
