Sharjah: Defending champions Mumbai Indians kept their hopes of a place in the playoffs alive with a resounding eight-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. Now, things get a bit tricky for the fourth spot as KKR and MI are contenders and both the teams have a game to play. Whereas a win for KKR would seal a playoff berth for them considering their high net run rate. The Knights will take on the Royals on Thursday, while Mumbai will play their last league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad the next day (Friday). This would mean that Mumbai would know what they need to make it to the playoffs and that would be a huge advantage. MI captain Rohit Sharma pointed this out after the win over Royals. Meanwhile, it was Jimmy Neesham and Nathan Coulter-Nile who bowled exceptionally well to keep MI alive and kick off Rajasthan Royals. New Zealand’s Neesham (3/12) and Australian Coulter-Nile (4/14) took seven wickets for just 26 runs in eight overs to bowl Rajasthan out for 90 for 9.

The five-time champion then took the runs to 12 points in 8.2 overs and more importantly, his net run-rate dropped to -0.048. This was also MI’s biggest win in terms of balls (70).

Ishan Kishan (50 not out) got some much-needed confidence during the short chase as they cheered again for cheating after MI kicked the Royals out of the IPL from the league stage itself.
