Yashasvi Jaiswal kept his play-off hopes alive with a morale-boosting seven-wicket win in the IPL at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday with Shivam Dube completing it beautifully. Jaiswal smashed a 21-ball 50, including some captivating sixes from star Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood, while Dubey sent Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja en route to an unbeaten 64 off 42 balls as the Royals posted 190. Made a small job of the win goal. In just 17.3 overs. Royals now have 10 points with two matches. The fourth place is bound to come with 14 points and the net run rate is going to be crucial. The loss will not hurt CSK much as they have already reached the last four stage with 18 points. When CSK finished their innings at 189 for 4 with Ruturaj Gaikwad’s scintillating 60-ball 101 not out, no one thought the Indian Royals would respond in a way and lead in an even better way. Jaiswal, with six fours and three sixes, was well supported in his opening stand of 77 in 5.2 overs by Evin Lewis (27 off 12 balls), which set up the game. Also read- Ruturaj Gaikwad of ‘special’ talent sets fire to IPL 2021
Hazlewood (0/54) could not have imagined that he would hit three sixes in his first spell as the match went out of control for CSK in the powerplay itself.
Jaiswal, whose game has improved a few notches from last season, was seen flicking Hazlewood to deep mid-wicket and also hit a straight six during that innings.
Dube, who doesn’t have much footwork, hit some monstrous sixes off Jadeja, Moeen Ali and Sam Curran whenever the ball was thrown into his arc.
He hit four fours and four sixes. Such was Dubey’s dominance that the stylish Sanju Samson (28 off 24 balls) also put on 89 runs for the third wicket in 9.3 overs.

But when the match started, it looked like Gaikwad took the stage as he completed a coveted IPL ton with a six off Mustafizur Rahman’s last ball.
Gaikwad smashed nine fours and five sixes in his unbeaten 101 not out off 60 balls to poke fun at the Royals’ bowling attack in their 12th round match. Some of his shots in the off-side area will be remembered for times to come.
Ravindra Jadeja (32 not out from 15 balls) four through Royals’ attack at the back-end as CSK added 55 runs in just 3.4 overs.
In fact, in the final over, Jadeja faced four balls, leaving Gaikwad with two balls to spare as he pulled Mustafizur Rahman off the final ball to complete the iconic landmark.
For Royals, leg-spinner Rahul Tewatia was the most successful bowler, but his joy of taking three wickets was spoiled by Gaikwad with two sixes – one at long-off and the other in the over. Visible screen.
The sixes at mid-wicket off left-arm pacer Akash Singh and Mustafizur were delightful as it landed on the edge of the grass at least 20 yards behind the ropes.
Punekar is not someone who is muscular but a “strong core” (according to him) and a stable base allows him to maintain shape for the big shots as the Royals found out that day.
The way he came down the track and bowled seamer Chetan Sakariya for a one-bounce boundary, it looked like he was facing a spinner with enough time at his disposal.
There were many boundaries in the arc between cover and mid-off area as his driving was majestic.
Since the resumption of the IPL, Gaikwad’s score sequence is 88, 38, 30, 45 and now 101 not out.
There hasn’t been a single failure so far and his partnership with Faf du Plessis (25) has been the cornerstone of CSK’s good batting performance.
None of his retired stars like Suresh Raina, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu, all IPL legends in their own right, have contributed much with the bat, mainly due to the power of du Plessis and Gaekwad. Not affecting them- pack starts.
On Saturday, he added 47 runs for the first wicket, while he scored 71 against RCB, 74 against KKR and 75 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
