Dubai: MS Dhoni has not been at his peak during the current season of the Indian Premier League. CSK have already qualified for the playoffs but Dhoni’s performance has been far from expected and is a worrying factor for the side before the end of business. Former West Indies bowler Ian Bishop conceded that it is better to give all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja a chance with the bat. “Yeah, Dhoni isn’t firing, so there are others, definitely Ravindra Jadeja, that I want to get more batting opportunities. I think we’ve seen that during this season, Dhoni doesn’t feel that way. That he will regain his form,” said Bishop on ESPNcricinfo. During the same show, former India opener Gautam Gambhir said that Dhoni needs to bat to become a threat. “He needs to bat to threaten him. He doesn’t bat enough balls in the game, so he needs to bat first,” said Gambhir. Bishop’s remarks came days after Dhoni recorded his slowest innings (at least 25 balls faced) in IPL history.

Dhoni has had a poor IPL, scoring 84 runs in 13 matches at an average of 14.

After the three-wicket loss to DC, Dhoni described CSK as 15 runs short and also revealed that the pitch was slow and scoring runs was not easy.

He said, ‘We were looking to reach 150. We had a good stage around the 15-16th over after losing a few wickets. We failed to accelerate. I thought it was a tough pitch. Anything closer to 150 would have been a good score. It is a two pace wicket. Not that it has become too slow. Can’t just play my shots. The Delhi batsmen did the same,” Dhoni said in the post-match presentation.
