Dubai: The Indian Premier League has well and truly reached its business end with the league stages being completed and dusted. Now the focus is on the four teams that have made it to the playoffs. Before the playoffs, former India cricketer, Gautam Gambhir evaluated all the four captains who would lead their teams to the playoff stage. Gambhir said that Eoin Morgan is not leading KKR. Taking a dig at Morgan, Gambhir said that he is being directed by a ‘video analyst’ from the dugout. Also Read – T20 WC: SRH Speedster Umran Malik Picked As India’s Net Bowler – Report
On ESPN Cricinfo’s show ‘Runorder’ Gambhir said: “Morgan’s point of view, I’m not sure because he’s not the captain, so it’s the video analyst who captains the team. He only sees the video analyst, so not me. Know if he is the captain on the field or (if) the captaincy is taking place off the field. He also talked about Virat Kohli and said that he is ‘fantastic’. He also lauded Kohli’s move to step down as captain. On Kohli, he said: “Virat has been fantastic. To be honest, I didn’t really enjoy his captaincy, but this time he has done very, very well. Maybe it’s because he feels this is his last chance as captain in the IPL, (so) he wants to enjoy it more; He’s more at ease now. And they’ve got bowlers this time…” Also Read – IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals Coach Ricky Ponting ‘Very Confident’ Ahead Of Qualifier 1 MS Dhoni’s Against Chennai Super Kings
Gambhir, who has played under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, said that he is No. 1, yet believes that Rishabh Pant has the advantage. He further added: “Purely from the captaincy point of view the one who can handle the pressure best, it should probably be Dhoni. Rishabh has the advantage in the sense that he has a lot of experience in the playing XI. If Steve Smith plays, he’s got it. They have Ravichandran Ashwin who has captained in the past too… so for me Dhoni is No. 1 at the moment.
