Hiring Spree Not Limited to Just IT, These Sectors Witness Strong Growth Too: Report


MUMBAI: The Indian job market posted a record-breaking performance for the third consecutive month, registering a 57 per cent year-on-year growth in September, according to the latest report by Jobseek. At 2,753 job postings, the index reached an all-time high in September, surpassing pre-COVID levels from 21 per cent in September 2019. Year-on-year, most sectors displayed significant annual growth led by IT (138 per cent) and hospitality (+82 per cent). “The recent wave of digital transformation among Indian organizations is creating demand for technical professionals. Hospitality, retail see significant growth

The report said sectors such as hospitality (82 per cent) and retail (+70 per cent), which were hardest hit by the pandemic, with many hotels and physical store outlets gradually reopening across the country in September significant increase was observed.

Hiring activity has also increased in the education (53%), banking/financial services (43%) and telecom/ISP (+37%) sectors as compared to September 2020. In September, metros registered 88 per cent annual growth. , leaving behind Tier 2 cities which grew by 30 percent. “The continued positive growth of IT-Software/Software Services sector has enabled major IT hubs to outperform other cities in the annual growth charts,” it said.

City-Wise Hiring Growth

Bengaluru (133 per cent), Hyderabad (110 per cent), Pune (95 per cent) and Chennai (85 per cent) posted the highest year-on-year growth in September.

Hiring activity was also positive in Delhi/NCR (72 per cent), while Mumbai and Kolkata both registered a growth of 60 per cent. Among tier II cities, Ahmedabad (82 per cent) and Coimbatore (46 per cent) recorded the highest annual growth, followed by Vadodara (33 per cent) and Kochi (19 per cent).

Experience band-wise growth

Hiring increased across all experience bands in September compared to last year, mainly due to the overall positive performance of the hiring market as it recovers from the shocks caused by the pandemic. During this period, the 8-12 years (75 per cent) category saw the maximum growth in demand for senior professionals, followed by 4-7 years (65 per cent), 13-16 years (57 per cent), 0-3 years ( 54 percent) and over 16 years (38 percent).

Month-on-month, job postings grew 3 percent, compared to 2,673 during August, reports Jobseek.com. Pawan Goel, Chief Business Officer, Naukri.com said, “Hiring in India is witnessing never-before-seen activity. Due to the demand for IT professionals, it is indeed heartening to see the industries recover at the beginning of the festive season.

“The market witnessed a growth of 57 per cent, indicating a strong revival of the market post-pandemic. Most regions, cities and experience bands have registered positive growth in both the YoY and MoM charts in the month of September.”
