Donald Trump Asks US Judge to Force Twitter to Restore His Account

New York (AP): Former President Donald Trump has asked a federal judge in Florida to force Twitter to reinstate its account, which the company suspended in January after a deadly hurricane struck the US Capitol. Trump’s lawyers filed a motion in US District Court in Miami on Friday seeking a preliminary injunction against Twitter and its CEO Jack Dorsey. They argue that Twitter is censoring, as per the proposal, in violation of their First Amendment rights. Also Read – PM Modi Raises H-1B Visa Issue With US President Joe Biden

The company permanently banned Trump from its platform after his followers violently stormed the Capitol building to try to prevent Congress from authenticating Joe Biden’s presidential victory. Twitter cited concerns that Trump would incite further violence. Before the ban, Trump had about 89 million followers on Twitter. Trump was also suspended from Facebook and Google’s YouTube over similar concerns that he would incite violence. Facebook’s ban will last for two years, until January 7, 2023, after which the company will review its suspension. YouTube’s ban is indefinite.

In July, Trump filed suit against all three tech companies and their CEOs in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, claiming he and other conservatives were unfairly censored. The motion for a preliminary injunction was filed as part of Trump’s case against Twitter.
