New Delhi: Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting is very confident of MS Dhoni’s IPL 2021 Qualifier 1 against Chennai Super Kings. Delhi topped the group stage with 10 wins from 14 matches to get an extra chance at the play-off stage. Rishabh Pant & Co have played major cricket so far in IPL 2021 and have already beaten Chennai Super Kings twice in the group stage which assures Ponting for a qualifier clash. “I think we should be very confident. We have beaten them twice in league games, but as you know, playoff games are completely different, and our tournament really starts now,” Ponting said Also Read – After Aryan Khan’s Arrest, Bengaluru-based EdTech Company Removes Shah Rukh Khan’s Ads

Ponting also feels that the loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last group stage match of the season has given his team an “opportunity to reflect” ahead of the playoffs.

“It was a disappointing way to end the game, and to lose the way we did, but I’m not sad at all. I think really, it’s a really good thing because it will give the boys a chance to think and think about how we can improve on Sunday’s game. It’s a short turnaround, so you have to forget things and start focusing on the next game,” Ponting said.

The great Australia captain emphasized on Delhi’s performance in crucial games against CSK, MI and RCB.

He conceded that despite the loss, the team performed better than the last few matches they had won in the league stage.

“There’s a lot to like about the game, even if we’ve lost. I think it is a step forward. If you look at the last match (against Chennai Super Kings), it was not a great performance, Mumbai’s game was also not a great performance, but we still managed to win those games.

“If you look at it, maybe we’ve played better than we won tonight, so of course that’s how I look at it. It’s not about the final results, it’s about the performances that we’ve got across the board.” But we were putting it on,” he said.

The Australian batsman is optimistic of reaching the playoffs.

“Prithvi played his best game tonight, Shikhar probably did his best in the tournament, so there is a lot to like about this group.

Ponting said, “As I said earlier, we have played good cricket, now the challenge for us next week is to play great cricket and I think it is very close for us.”
