Adani Ports Says After Mudra Drug Haul

New Delhi: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) will not handle EXIM containerized cargo arriving from Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan at all its terminals from November 15. The decision comes after nearly 3,000 kg of heroin was seized from two containers in Gujarat. Mudra Port operated by Adani Group in September. “Please be informed that from November 15, 2021, APSEZ will no longer handle EXIM containerized cargo coming from Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. This trade advisory shall be applicable until further notice at all terminals operated by APSEZ and at any APSEZ Port including third party terminals,” said the advisory signed by Chief Executive Officer Subrata Tripathi. The Adani group was targeted on social media in the wake of the seizure of a huge quantity of drugs by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on September 16. The company was also forced to make a statement on September 21 which read: “APSEZ is a port operator providing services to shipping lines. We have no police authority over containers or millions of tonnes of cargo passing through the terminal in Mundra or any of our ports. “

Last month, heroin was found at the port in two containers that were declared to contain “semi-processed talcum stones”. The goods had arrived from Afghanistan through the port of Bandar Abbas in Iran in the name of a trading company based in Vijayawada.

Earlier this month, the probe into the seizure was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
