  • Madhuri and Sanjay Kapoor star together in The Fame Game
  • “Now it’s all media-driven,” said Madhuri
  • “It can be exhausting, but it’s also fun,” she added

New Delhi:

Almost 40 years after the 1984 movie tezaab made her a star, Madhuri Dixit is set for debut – 54-year-old actress stars in upcoming web series The fame game alongside Sanjay Kapoor, her co-star from the hit movie rajaThe fame game plays Madhuri as a famous actress who disappears with Sanjay as her hapless, or perhaps not so hapless, husband. Speaking to Trendysmm, Madhuri and Sanjay explained how life has changed on and off the set since they created Raja in 1995. Perhaps the most visible change is how movies and shows are now promoted – publicity duty for any project involves a multimedia blitz.

“Back in the day when we were making movies we just shot the movie and we did a handful of press. We would promote the songs and do interviews with some magazines. Now we need a plethora of stuff, magazines, websites, now it’s all media driven. exhausting, but it’s also fun,” Madhuri Dixit told Trendysmm.

What really stands out for Madhuri Dixit from then to now is the increased female presence on set. “I should add that when I started filming, the only women on the film set would be me, my co-stars and my hairdresser. That’s it, no other women on the set. It used to be an all-male crew. If now we go to a film set, assistant directors are women and so are some cameramen, now women do the writing, directing. The fame game is co-directed by a woman, Karishma Kohli has done some episodes together with Bejoy Nambiar. It’s very encouraging to see this change,” she said.

Sanjay Kapoor shared some trivia about how technology has changed since the sets of raja up to now. “We’ve seen the old days and we’re seeing new days. We’ve seen both worlds. I remember it was a big deal the first time a monitor appeared on the sets of a movie, until then we were dependent from the director , who would depend on the cameraman. Life went on at that time, great movies were being made even then. When we started shooting for Raja there were no monitors or vanity vans, monitors came on film sets towards the end of Raja’s shooting,” the actor told Trendysmm.

Madhuri Dixit approves and has adapted to the new age promotions and social media. “Things are different now, but I like it, I enjoy everything,” she said.

That’s not to say a dose of nostalgia isn’t appreciated. Madhuri and Sanjay recently wowed the internet by dancing to Ankhiyaan Milaoon Kabhi from Rajah at a party – “Back to the 90s,” Sanjay captioned the clip:

Back to the 90s indeed – The fame game will be released on Netflix on February 25.
