New Delhi:

Since the first poster of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi was released, it has become clear that the film rests on Alia Bhatt’s shoulders. And given the actress’ body of work over the past decade, this comes as no surprise. Alia Bhatt has proven to be a capable performer – one who is able to enter both big-budget potboilers and content-driven cinema with the ease of a seasoned performer. With one of the biggest films of Alia Bhatt’s career ready to hit theaters, we’ve decided to take a quick look at some of the actress’ most vibrant and celebrated performances over the years.

Here’s a list of five of Alia Bhatt’s most beloved movies — available for streaming on OTT platforms — that deserve a watch (or even a rewatch).

  1. Raazi – Amazon Prime Video

One of Alia Bhatt’s biggest hits is Raazi, the spy thriller directed by Meghna Gulzar. The film shows her as Sehmat Khan, a naive young woman who is training to become a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent. The film is based on true events captured in the 2008 novel, Calling Sehmat.

  1. Highway – Disney + Hotstar

While Imtiaz Ali’s Highway was only Alia Bhatt’s second film, it showed that the actress was here to stay and would most likely rule Bollywood. As Veera Tripathi, Alia plays a kidnapping victim who finds more freedom with her captor than with her family, who hide a grave secret at the expense of Veera’s well-being.

  1. Udta Punjab – Netflix

Udta Punjab is another author supported role in which Alia Bhatt proved her skill. In the film, Alia plays a migrant worker from Bihari, whose dreams of playing hockey at the national level are shattered. She is subsequently subjected to physical, sexual and drug abuse by drug traffickers, but she is not one to give up.

  1. Gully Boy – Amazon Prime Video

Gully Boy may have been the success story of Murad Ahmed played by Ranveer Singh, but the love story between Murad and Alia Bhatt’s Safeena is one of the highlights of this coming-of-age music drama. Safeena is a spirited character who refuses to live by the rules laid down for her by society and is willing to fight for herself and everything she loves.

  1. Dear Zindagi – Netflix

Dear Zindagi is another coming-of-age drama starring Alia Bhatt. The film follows Kaira, a cameraman, who fights her demons and finds herself with the help of a psychologist played by Shah Rukh Khan. Check it out for Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan performing at his charming best in the role of Dr Jehangir “Jug” Khan.
