Legendary Pakistani off spinner Saeed Ajmal has predicted that Mumbai Indians off spinner Hrithik Shokeen will become the new star of Indian cricket. Ajmal quoted one of the tweets Hrithik had posted after his Mumbai Indians debut, calling him “such a talented kid”.

Hrithik Shokeen has played two matches for Mumbai Indians so far and although he has not taken a wicket in either match, his craft has impressed many people.

Hrithik, in his debut match against CSK where he was bowling for some very good players with spin, gave away just 23 runs in his 4 overs and was unlucky not to get a wicket as a low catch decision was against him when many people thought it was a fringe decision and could have gone in the bowler’s favour.

Hrithik Shokeen was also very, very frugal to LSG

Hrithik then got another chance from Mumbai in the next game against Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) and in that game he threw two overs in the power play itself, against the likes of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, but the youngster still only got 11 overs to. runs in his 2 overs.

You are such a talented boy @Hrithik14S Keep working hard, all my best wishes are with you✨

The impressive thing about Hrithik Shokeen is that he doesn’t seem to be a one-dimensional off-spinner. He can be fast in the air and bowl flat, which is often required in T20 cricket, but he can also be slow in the air and show a little trickery.

The kind of off-spinner, who can be both offensive and defensive, is certainly one the Indian selectors will be keeping a close eye on as India hasn’t found a world-class off-spinner after Ravichandran Ashwin.

To be hailed by someone like Saeed Ajmal is certainly a great credit to Hrithik at such a young age as Ajmal, during his heyday, was a legendary off-spin bowler and impressed in all conditions and all sizes. He certainly knows a thing or two about off-spin bowling.
