IPL has always played host to a whole host of exciting young cricketers who would climb immense heights and chart a path of fame and glory for them. The latest edition of the IPL is no exception, as youngsters like Umran Malik, Ayush Badoni, B Sai Sudarshan and a few other promising names emerge. There was a new addition to this brilliant list and it was the young brutal fast bowler, Mohsin Khan, who helped Lucknow take another win.
Lucknow struck first and it was another KL Rahul masterclass that set the tone for the game as the Indian opener amassed 77 runs off 51 deliveries starring 4 fours and 5 sixes. He was perfectly complemented by Quinton de Kock at the start and Deepak Hooda next. Shardul Thakur claimed three wickets, while Axar Patel was the most frugal of them all.
Delhi’s opening pair faltered way too early, and that included a memorable surprise. A seasoned David Warner was undone by Mohsin Khan’s pace as he lunges at Ayush Badoni. Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant would come together and form an impressive partnership that would put Delhi back on track.
This is what Harsha Bhogle said about Mohsin Khan
It was mainly Pant who seemed more menacing than the other Delhi batters and threatened to take the game from the Giants. Rahul came up with an unorthodox captaincy here, throwing a young Mohsin Khan in the deep end when he faced off against a marauding Pant who has once tamed the world’s great names like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
Believe it or not, Khan delivered one of the simplest weapons a fast bowler can have and it was a shaky delivery and somehow Pant fell into the trap expecting something more complicated. His timbre went for a walk because the Super Giants knew they had almost won the game.
Given the unpredictable game that cricket has always been, a new pair would come with the goods if Axar Patel and Rovman Powell started firing on all cylinders. Just when it felt again that the Caribbean powerhouse can make the impossible happen, it was Mohsin Khan who would conjure up a slower peach, causing Powell to produce the mishit and also concede the game.
Despite Axar Patel’s best efforts, the task was done for the Capitals and Mohsin would finish his spell perfectly with another wicket causing Shardul Thakur to fall for another variation trap, causing him to crumble.
It’s always good to see young people perform and the way Mohsin performed was just mind-boggling. Mohsin heard during the press conference that his parents always wanted to see him in the IPL. Eminent commentator, Harsha Bhogle, picked up on those lines and left a heartwarming tweet for the youngster. He would quote: “Mohsin Khan said his parents wanted to see him play in the… #IPL† Well, they’ll be seeing him a lot in the future.”
