Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar is not happy at all with the way Shivam Dube’s career chart has progressed as a bowler since he made his first-class debut for Mumbai a few years ago. Yesterday in a very important game of IPL 2022, Dube was given the responsibility of bowling the 19th over of the innings for CSK against Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) and although it was a tough call to hand the ball to someone straight away in the 19th over , CSK had 34 runs on the bench to play with.
But Shivam Dube was ripped apart in all corners of the ground by LSG batting duo Ayush Badoni and Evin Lewis when he conceded 25 runs in the 19th left and the match slipped from CSK’s grasp. While Sunil Gavaskar admitted that it would not have been easy for any bowler to take on the task of bowling over that high pressure after not bowling for the innings, but the areas Dube bowled were totally wrong.
Sunil Gavaskar was not happy that Shivam Dube was trying to throw slower deliveries
Gavaskar noticed that Dube was bowling long balls which was probably what the batsmen wanted to play the loft shots on the ground and on top of that he also rolled his fingers over the ball. As a bowler, you roll your fingers over the ball on surfaces where it grabs and holds the ball, but on surfaces where the ball slides onto the bat, rolling your fingers over the ball makes it easier for the batsmen.
Sunil Gavaskar, while commenting during the game, felt that even if Dube was given the grueling task of bowling over of the innings straight into the 19th, he should have used his experience and tried to get better areas and better lengths. bowling which he didn’t despite being in the circuit for a few years.
