“I’ve never been the most important player in a team” – Karun Nair opines on the rise and fall of his career –

Karun Nair became the talking point of the entire cricket club after scoring a triple century for the Indian cricket team in a test match against the England cricket team at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai during the 2016/17 season. However, Nair failed to make it big after that hit.

Nair has played IPL regularly after that, but he has not made a huge impact. In a recent interaction prior to IPL 2022, Nair spoke about why his career has had so many ups and downs.

He joked that when he scored points, someone else scored more points than him, which is why not many fans noticed his contributions. Here’s what he had to say in a release issued by Rajasthan Royals:

“In my opinion, the reason behind that is that I’ve never been the kind of lead on a team in T20 cricket. If you see when I score runs, there’s someone else who scores better in the same game (laughs).”

Karun Nair seriously explains why people don’t see him as a T20 specialist

Then Karun Nair seriously added that the fans don’t see him as a specialist in the shortest form of the game as his role has changed many times. Sometimes he plays as a batter of the highest order, sometimes he is asked to play in the middle order.

Looking at the total numbers of Karun in the Indian Premier League so far, the righthanded batter has played 66 innings. In 16 of them, he played as lead-off hitter. He hit 19 times at number three, while playing at number four in 22 innings.

He has hit number five or number six nine times. The numbers clearly indicate that Nair has not been given a real role. It will be interesting to see how RR uses it in IPL 2022.
