Umran Malik was in the shape of his life when he pulled out a knockout that would bring Punjab Kings to their knees and set off a storm so fierce it would ring through the entire fabric of the cricketing world.

He was afraid of his money, as one would say, as the experts from different corners of the world gathered to praise his efforts. The latest addition to this list of awards came from the Master Blaster of Indian cricket, Sunil Gavaskar.

Gavaskar believes that Umran Malik will soon be part of the national cricket team and that he can only be an absolute asset if he finds a good mentor to steer him in the right direction. Gavaskar has always valued young talent and his praise for a young Umran is just another factor that would prove that Umran Malik is heading in the right direction.

Here’s what Sunil Gavaskar and Dale Steyn had to say about Umran Malik

Gavaskar quoted live on Star Sports: “Umran Malik has been very, very impressive with his speed, but more than his speed, it’s his accuracy (that’s impressed). Many guys bowling at that speed tend to squirt the ball around, but Umran bowls very few wide deliveries. †

He further added: “If he can control the wide down the leg side he will be a great bowler as that will mean he will be hitting the stumps all the time and with his pace it is not easy to get straight. to beat. If he bowls wicket-to-wicket, he pretty much becomes an unplayable bowler. He’s going to play for India.”

Dale Steyn, Sunrisers’ fast bowling instructor, was extremely happy to see Umran Malik reaping the rewards beyond expectations. There were upbeat scenes in the dugout where he was absolutely delighted alongside Muralitharan to witness the youngster’s fire after a meager patch in the first few games.

In fact, Steyn also broke his peace of mind on Star Sports, as he quoted: “My job at Umran is to make sure he runs fast and lets players play differently. My job is to try and make him progressive on what the batters plan to do. It’s exciting for us to sit back and see what a genius he is. I don’t want to turn him into what I was, all I want is for his geniuses to come out.”

The Sunrisers have managed to take their fourth consecutive win of the season, moving them to fourth on the points list and will be eager to maintain their momentum as they take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.
