Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by three wickets in Mumbai on Wednesday. In the pursuit of 129, RCB lost a couple of early wickets and so the match turned into a low scoring thriller. RCB needed a Dinesh Karthik finish to win the match with a few balls left. Faf du Plessis was happy with the way DK played and even had an interesting award for the veteran. In this article we take a look at what RCB skipper Faf du Plessis had to say about Dinesh Karthik’s finish against KKR.

A low scoring thriller in Mumbai

After their overwhelming win in the first game, KKR was expected to harass RCB, who had lost their first meeting. However, the batters of KKR were tactically wrong, as they attacked too early. In the process they regularly lost wickets. In the end, they placed a total of 128 on the board.

Since RCB had scored 205 in the first game, many thought they would easily hit the target. However, that was not allowed. After losing some early wickets, RCB had only a few inexperienced batters and Dinesh Karthik at their disposal. The likes of Shelfane Rutherford, David Willey and Shahbaz Ahmed produced a few essential cameos, but DK’s composure helped RCB over the line.

RCB found themselves in a nervous situation and a wicket in the last over could have made things tricky. However, DK backed off and hit a huge six from Andre Russell’s bowling alley. He finished 14(7)* but that was enough to take RCB home.

Speaking of DK’s knock and skills at death, Faf du Plessis said: “DK’s experience helped in the end, cool-calm, runs were never really too far away. He’s probably as cool as MS Dhoni can get in the last five overs.” Coming from a player who has seen MS Dhoni up close, it was indeed high praise for the Tamil Nadu cricketer.
