The IPL rivalry between MI and CSK has always entertained cricket fans around the world. However, in the past three years, fans have seen the Mumbai Indians bowlers manage to take early wickets from the Chennai Super Kings team. It happened in IPL 2020 and 2021, and tonight it happened again in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to field first. The decision worked in his team’s favour, as the trio of Daniel Sams, Jasprit Bumrah and Riley Meredith reduced the Chennai Super Kings to 39/6. At one point it looked like CSK would struggle to cross the 60-point mark, but MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo saved the team from an embarrassing total.

The start of the Chennai Super Kings team was not the best as they lost the wickets of Devon Conway and Moeen Ali. Conway was unlucky as he was eliminated as an LBW due to a ball sliding down. He wanted to record a review, but DRS was not available due to a power outage at the stadium.

MI achieved a unique performance against CSK at Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2022

Shortly after Devon Conway walked back to the dressing room, the England cricket team’s all-rounder Moeen Ali joined Ruturaj Gaikwad in the middle. Ali handed a catch to Hrithik Shokeen from Sams’ bowling before he could open his account when the Chennai Super Kings dropped to 0/2.

In the next over, Jasprit Bumrah took the wicket from Robin Uthappa as the Chennai Super Kings collapsed to 5/3. It was revealed that the Mumbai Indians are the only team to have picked up three wickets from Chennai Super Kings before scoring more than five runs.

CSK have lost three wickets under six runs in their IPL history three times, and all three occasions have been against MI alone.
