Mumbai Indians competed against Delhi Capitals in the second match of IPL 2022. DC skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to field first at Brabourne Stadium. MI was dominant for most of the match, but an expensive 18th over from new bowler Daniel Sams cost them the match.

Delhi Capitals fell to 104/6 in a 178-run chase. Watching the way Mumbai Indians pitched in the first leg of DC’s innings, it looked like they were going to win easily. But Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel added 75 runs for the seventh wicket and helped DC open their account in the IPL 2022 points table.

Yadav and Patel have never been given enough opportunities to showcase their talent in the IPL before. Earlier today, they got the chance to prove themselves as a match winner and grabbed it with both hands. Yadav was able to finish 48 runs off 38 balls, while his partner Patel collected 38 runs from just 17 deliveries.

Daniel Sams was given the responsibility of throwing over the 18th when Delhi Capitals needed 28 runs to win. Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav scored 24 runs to his overs, bringing the comparison down to four runs off 12 balls. Patel then hit a four down the leg side of Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling to lead DC home.

“I thought it was a good total on the board, at the beginning we didn’t feel like we were going to make it to 170+, but we hit really well all the time. Walking on the board, but we have not bowled according to our plans that we had for the opposition,” said Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma after the match.

Mumbai Indians were unhappy with Daniel Sams’ bowling performance

Daniel Sams’ over changed the momentum of the match. After the match ended, some fans blamed him on Instagram with some negative comments. A Twitter user posted a screenshot of the comments.
