The 2007 edition of the ICC 50-over World Cup was an eventful one. While Australia defended the title in the West Indies, Team India was eliminated in the group stage itself. That achievement had a huge impact on the future of Indian cricket. That event took place 15 years ago and interestingly, a few members of that event are still active in the game. A few of them even play in the ongoing Indian Premier League. In this article, we look at four players who played in the 50-over World Cup in 2007 and also play in IPL 2022.

1) MS Dhoni – Chennai Super Kings

MS Dhoni was relatively new to the team, but had already secured his place in the XI thanks to his efforts in the previous months. Therefore, he played three games in that tournament, but was able to return with only 29 runs in total. In two of those games, against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, MS Dhoni was out for naught.

In the same year, fate changed for Dhoni when he was appointed captain of the T20 squad for the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup. India managed to win the tournament that year. Of course his IPL exploits are well known and despite being over 40 he is still part of the competition.

2) Dinesh Karthik – Royal Challengers Bangalore

Dinesh Karthik is one of the players who played in the 50 World Cup in 2007 and also plays in IPL 2022. The Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper also made his debut around the same time as MS Dhoni. At MSD, however, he hardly got any opportunities there. For the event, DK went as reserve wicketkeeper. However, the player did not get any game.

Nevertheless, DK is currently one of the highly regarded cricketers. He is currently playing in IPL 2022 and is in good form. There are chances he could force a return to Team India.

3) Dwayne Bravo – Chennai Super Kings

Dwayne Bravo played for the West Indies during that event which was actually hosted in his home country. He was part of nine games, but scored just 129 points in total. Apart from a 37* against Zimbabwe, he had no other notable points. With the ball, however, he took 13 wickets and helped his team advance in the competition.

Bravo has now retired from international cricket. He is a T20 specialist and will play for CSK in IPL 2022. Bravo happens to be the highest wicket taker in the league.

4) Robin Uthappa – Chennai Super Kings

Robin Uthappa is also one of the players who played in the 2007 50-over World Cup and will also play in IPL 2022. A few months before the tournament, Robin had announced himself with some solid blows on the biggest stage. As a youngster, Robin was selected for the event and even got a shot in the playing XI for all three matches. However, the man from Karnataka was unable to set the scene on fire. He could only manage 30 runs in total and was unable to help India in any of the games.

At the moment, Uthappa is part of CSK in IPL 2022. It is a competition in which he has done well, but regarding his international career, the player was unable to do much after the impressive start. A return is not in it now, although nothing can be ruled out.
